This year's Senate race has resulted in more than 86,000 ad spots being aired thus far, bringing in an estimated $83 million, Kantar Media/CMAG data indicate. An estimated $42 million in ads are expected to run from now through September. "[Donald] Trump at the top of the ticket may lead to even greater spending in down-ballot races as certain states become more competitive" said professor and analyst Ken Goldstein.

DOL rule doubles OT salary threshold for radio workers
A new rule from the US Department of Labor has doubled the threshold for overtime pay for salaried radio workers to $47,476, from $23,660. Approximately 8% of radio and television workers, roughly 385,000 people, will be eligible for additional pay under the law.

Competition increases as TV growth explodes
The TV industry has seen explosive growth, with production of scripted shows nearly doubling between 2009 and 2015 and companies such as Netflix spending billions in programming. "[W]e're very much living in a time where you can see the art versus the commerce. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, but it's all part of the growing pains of whatever this new model of television is," said comedian and writer Yassir Lester.
